South Africa offers world class golf in a climate that is as varied as the people and places that exist in it. Cape Town, with its Mediterranean weather, enjoys year round golfing. The Peninsula’s sweeping mountains and palm fringed beaches attract visitors from all over the world and provide a backdrop to some of the most beautiful golf courses in the country. Cape Town is also home to the fabulous Cape Winelands, set amongst the rolling hills and mountains that surround Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek.
Johannesburg and Pretoria are home to numerous exclusive golf clubs and have sunshine throughout the winter. Close to magnificent game parks with 5 star lodges and free roaming game, health spas and holiday retreats, there is something for every visitor. KwaZulu Natal is different again with warm winters and summer sunshine in a lush, tropical environment alongside the Indian Ocean’s most famous beaches. The diversity of these climates and quality of the country’s golfing venues has made South Africa one of the world’s top golfing and holiday destinations.
Among the golf enthusiasts of the world, South Africa is still a well kept secret, and yet virtually every town in South Africa has its own golf course. All together there are more than 500 courses in the country and - due to the strong demand - the number keeps on growing. Many of these courses are of superior quality, excellently equipped and situated in beautiful scenery. Visitors are always welcome and the green fees are reasonable.
Golf courses include :-
Spier Country Club - Designed by Peter Matkovich, this 18 hole course is set among vineyards and orange groves, alongside the Blaauwklippen River. With magnificent mountain backdrops, this exquisite setting presents an exciting challenge to golfers of all standards. The Clubhouse is uniquely situated within the wine cellar of the Kleine Zalze Wine farm.
Hans Merensky Country Club - This course is situated at Phalaborwa, known as the gateway to the Kruger National Park. You will experience the wonders of Africa as you encounter wildlife on immaculately attended greens. This 18- hole, par-72 golf course has hippos in the water hazards and rolling fairways with spectacular views of the African Bushveld.

Sun City Golf Club - The Lost City Golf Course is a new desert-style course with some very interesting features, including live crocodiles at one of the water holes! The style of the course provides a good contrast to the Gary Player Country Club course and has already hosted PGA events. This course has more of a links feel with fairways which encourage the bump-and-run approach. Other interesting features include the two Baobab trees which flank one of the greens. Further interest is provided by some of the greens and tees which have been terraced into the side of the Pilanesberg mountains. The views of the surrounding countryside and the Palace are breathtaking.
Umhali Golf Course - Just 20 minutes drive north of Durban is a scenic undulating course in a tropical garden setting. Although not a very long course, the holes are cleverly designed and varied, providing a fair golfing test. Indigenous vegetation is predominant at some of the holes, with others featuring mainly palm trees and water hazards. This is an ideal holiday golf course in beautiful and relaxing surroundings.
